The 10th Edition of the Lifeline rides around Anne Arundel County was a huge success with beautiful fall bike riding weather, low humidity, sunshine and temperatures in the 60s and 70s, a perfect day for 858 cyclists to experience Anne Arundel County. While the Century (310 riders) and Metric Century (286 riders) courses are by far the ride favorites, we had substantial growth this year in the 30 mile “all trail” ride (189 riders) as a great opportunity for relatively new riders to test themselves on a longer course. Some even stretched it to 40 miles by extending north to the BWI Loop around the airport or extending south through Annapolis and around Bay Ridge. Additionally, more than 100 children participated in the free Children’s Bike Rodeo and Family Fun Bike Safari at Kinder Farm Park.

On of the most picturesque views of the 65/100 mile routes from Bay Ridge overlooking the Chesapeake Bay.

This year’s proceeds of $31,500 were generated by registration fees, sponsorships, and other in-kind support and were distributed to our long standing non-profit partners Anne Arundel Crisis Response System, Friends of Anne Arundel County Trails and Friends of Kinder Farm Park as well as to BikeAAA. Since its inaugural ride in 2014, Lifeline rides have generated over $400,000 in proceeds for local non-profits.

This award-winning annual signature bicycle event is hosted by a special partnership of Anne Arundel County Police, Anne Arundel County Recreation & Parks, and Bicycle Advocates for Annapolis & Anne Arundel County (BikeAAA). Together, we promote health, safety, recreation, and fun through beautiful and historic areas of Annapolis and the County. We highlight the joys and benefits of biking for recreation and transportation for all ages and abilities while sending a message of safe use of our roads and trails by all users.

On Monday, October 21, during the Anne Arundel County Bicycle Advisory Commission meeting at the Arundel Center, checks were presented to the local non-profits. In addition, County Executive Steuart Pittman also recognized BikeAAA with a 10th Anniversary citation. In attendance were members of the respective non-profits as well as Anne Arundel County Police, Anne Arundel County Recreation & Parks and the County Executive.
