Maryland has been studying alternatives for a new Chesapeake Bay bridge crossing. The Anne Arundel County Bicycle Advisory Commission weighed in on this in 2021 insisting on a separated bike/ped lane as has been done on major bridges throughout the nation. Unfortunately, the governor’s initial announcement of such a facility on the Nice Bridge replacement was later removed. Advocates are still pressing to preserve the old bridge as a bike/ped crossing. These are once in a lifeline opportunities to create such crossings and bike/ped facilities should be included in any new crossings including the Chesapeake Bay, Susquehanna River and Potomac River.
